Summer Kickoff
Charter Oak is kicking off Summer by competing in a friendly walking challenge. This Challenge will last 6 weeks and at the end of the challenge we will be awarding the TOP 6 Walkers.
Did You Know?
A regular brisk walk can help you*:
- Prevent or manage various conditions, including heart disease, stroke and high blood pressure.
- Strengthen your bones and muscles.
- Increase energy levels.
- Improve mood, cognitive, memory and sleep.
- Strengthen your immune system.
- Reduce stress and tension.
Consider your technique*:
- Your head is up. You’re looking forward, not at the ground
- Your neck, shoulders and back are relaxed, not stiffly upright
- You’re swinging your arms freely with a slight bend in your elbows. A little pumping with your arms is okay.
- Your stomach muscles are slightly tightening, and your back is straight, not arched forward or backwards.
- You’re walking smoothly, rolling your foot from heel to toe.
How to get started*:
- Plan a routine – get the right gear, choose your course carefully, warm up, cool down and stretch.
- Set realistic goals – it’s okay to start slowly!
- Track your progress – keep track of your steps.
- Stay motivated – set yourself up for success, make walking enjoyable, and vary your routine.
