Fall-Inspired Recipe
Embrace the cooler weather with this healthy chili recipe from one of our very own employees. Enjoy!
Turkey Sweet Potato Chili
1 lb. ground turkey
1 small onion, chopped
3 garlic cloves, crushed
1 15 oz can black beans, drained and rinsed
2-3 sweet potatoes (depending on size) chopped bite-size
1 8 oz. can tomato sauce
1 cup water or chicken broth
1 14.5 oz can diced tomato
1 4 oz can diced green chili (optional)
1 cup frozen corn
3-4 tbsp chili powder
1 tbsp sugar
1 tsp ground cumin
1 tsp paprika
Half a tsp cayenne pepper (optional)
Salt & pepper to taste
- Sauté ground turkey, breaking the meat up. Add onion and garlic. Sauté until done. Season with salt and pepper.
- Add tomato sauce and water (chicken broth), diced tomato, diced green chili. Stir to combine.
- Add chili powder, sugar, cumin, paprika, cayenne pepper. Stir to combine.
- Add black beans, sweet potatoes, and corn. Increase heat and bring to boil.
- Once boiled, reduce heat and cook 25-30 minutes.
- Season with salt and pepper as needed.
Branded Concert Night Recap
Charter Oak wrapped up their Summer Beats Concert Series with a third and final performance by Branded, along with delicious food and drinks from Nando’s Authentic Mexican, Genna 1 Jamaican Food Truck, Jumping Cow Ice Cream truck and Bar Cart LLC. We want to extend a thank you to all the members and vendors that made these events a success and we can’t wait for next year’s series.
Sneak Peak of October Events
Summer may be coming to an end, but the fun isn’t stopping at Charter Oak. We have more exciting events in the month of October. Our 4th annual Trunk or Treat will be happening on October 22nd, and we will be hosting another blood drive with American Red Cross on October 16th. Check out our events page for more details.
